Usually, but not always. It may have minerals in it that can give the water an unpleasant taste or in rare cases be contaminated. We recommend that the groundwater is fully analysed and determine the best treatment option. WATCOM takes care of this for you.
• We provide you a quotation on email to establish if the project is feasible. • Followed by desk-study involving collection and analysis of all available relevant hydrogeological information, evaluation of existing borehole data. All data analysed with GIS • Field reconnaissance surveys • Execution of siting through resistivity profiles and soundings in 25 villages, interpretation of measurements and selection of drill sites • Final reporting, comprehensive analysis of all obtained results including recommendations for drilling sites • We engage a drilling contractor do drill the recommended drill site who will visit the proposed site to agree a suitable position of the proposed borehole, infrastructure and identify access for our equipment needed. • On-site work can span 10-15 working days: drilling varies between 3 to 8 days, and pipe work and cables are installed. The submersible pump is placed in the borehole and tested, and we pump through to clear the supply. Water is then sent to the laboratory for analysis to verify purity. This is likely to take up to 3 days depending on the analysis required. • Lastly casting of platform and handpump installation. Our experienced and knowledgeable technical staff have a complete in-house service. We are very happy to handle your entire project, from project idea conception, concept proposals, feasibility studies, design, estimate, implementation, through to post construction management;ensuring everything runs smoothly
Water and Construction Management Consult Ltd (trading as WATCOM), is involved in design and construction of water supply systems, hydrogeological surveys, siting and drilling supervision, borehole pump testing, construction of rainwater harvesting facilities, design of irrigation systems, rehabilitation of boreholes, gravity flow scheme etc.
WATCOM does not own a drilling rig. However, we work with registered drillers and have drilled very many wells for various clients.
To abstract water for motorized or powered pump supply from any surface or ground water well requires a water abstraction permit. A water abstraction permit is applied for by the client after having the details of the source eg a borehole. The data collected by during drilling will help acquire an abstraction permit from the Ministry of Water.
WATCOM does not provide quotes for 'no water no pay'. We endeavor to advise our clients what we think is best for the situation on site, best on data collected, and our experience. However, even with all that, we can never guarantee 100% success rate; especially for a one -two borehole type of contract. In bigger projects, contractors often take a risk, after thorough study of probabilities of the risk, but often decided by the number of boreholes to be constructed under the project in question, such that, the risk is spread on so many boreholes and thus reduced and probably acceptable.
We are very experienced in ground water development, and have sited and drilled numerous boreholes in Uganda. Unfortunately, as a professional, we would be lying you to guarantee a specific amount of yield from a borehole before drilling; neither can we take on such a risk! This does not mean that there is no chance of getting even a high yielding borehole (greater than 2.4 cubic per hour) but we cannot guarantee. Even if we did a thorough desk study and field hydro-geological survey before hand, we only increase the chance to about 70-90% of success, but as a company we do not give guarantees of yield. Any professional who gives such guarantees wants to cheat you, because, world over, there are no precise scientific means or machines to precisely estimate quantity of water at a point before drilling. You can somehow predict quality with some good precision, but not yield and depth of the yield! The science of ground water uses inferences from other indicators, not direct indicators!
We provide a fixed price quotation for the drilling of the borehole, so you can be sure there are no hidden extras.
WATCOM has carried out numerous similar projects for rural and urban water supplies. If the amount of water obtained after drilling meets the targeted demand, the borehole can be motorised for piped water supply.
Our strength relies on very experienced and knowledgeable technical staff; with wide exposure and over 10 years’ experience working on Design of water supply systems, sanitation, bridge works, GIS and Mapping. Our core team has handled feasibility studies, baseline studies, project appraisals, capacity building projects, water supply designs, and concept developments for various projects, in Uganda, and the region. Besides our technical expertise, we possess some of the best practices, systems and routines. On projects where our core staffs lack some competences, we have abilities to attract high-calibre subject matter experts as freelance consultants in order to beef up and deliver the best results for our client. We work with our clients at all stages of the process offering advice and support from our qualified staff.
